#revivingchestnut is officially 5 months in and 2 months out from our target completion date of January 31, 2020 and all indications are that the project will be completed on schedule. Obviously, a ton has happened to get us to this point and the home’s transformation is simply remarkable. Transformations are a funny thing. It doesn’t matter what type of transformation it is, most follow a distinct pattern. It’s a journey that takes things from where they were to where they are to where they’re meant to be.
This house started as a single-family home and along it’s 140-year journey became a funeral home, a business office and an apartment complex. Now, it’s coming full circle albeit with some upgrades! At this point the interior has taken shape, all the drywall is up and all major systems have been installed and inspected. The once dank basement now has the framework for our new theater room, home office and gym. Our floor is set to be installed in the next couple weeks and right after that the cabinetry is expected to arrive.
But despite all these changes, one thing we painstakingly preserved was the home’s character. The echoes of the past resonate off the walls here, a fact which will be immediately apparent to all who visit in the coming years. Decade upon decade of shared experiences, of familiar joy, of sadness, loss and hope belonging to all who have occupied the home before us. Our story is simply the next chapter in the long history of this house and we’re honored to be a part of it.
